AFAIK, the recall iw for EGR Cooler, not EGR valve. EGR failure is quite common on the 6 cylinder diesels especially if you have been using cheap supermarket diesel. £1200 is way OTT for a simple EGR valve replacement and sounds more like the cost to replace the cooler. I would expect an EGR to be half that.

My 09 35d w/ 40k miles has had a hesitation issue for the past few months. During gentle acceleration between 1500 and 2000 rpm, my ECU measured boost pressure starts to fluctuate between 15 and 20 psi 3-4 times per second. Going slower or faster makes this go away.

The EGR valve connects the exhaust manifold to the intake manifold. The EGR valve is normally closed. There is no EGR flow when the engine is cold, at idle, or during hard acceleration. EGR flow is at its peak during steady cruising under moderate load. The engine computer (PCM) opens or closes the EGR valve to control the flow within the EGR BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2014-2018 328d, 328d xDrive, X5 xDrive35d, 2014-2016 535d, 535d xDrive, 2015 740Ld xDrive, and 2015-2017 X3 xDrive28d vehicles. There is no need to fit EGR caps or EGR blanking plugs or EGR plates as it will be a waste of time and money. As you will still need to program the codes out in the Ecus software anyway after these EGR blank plugs have been fitted. So I would advise to program the EGR valve to stay closed correctly in the ECUs software at the time of the remap.

There is a global recall on EGR Valve Cooler, possibly related to the recent incidents in South Korea, where BMWs caught fire. Better check with your dealer. I recently received a letter stating BMW is extending the warranty on the EGR valve and EGR cooler to 10 years / 120k.

The first is a 0 - 40 MPH. The 2nd going up a bridge at 80 mph. The EGR recall mentions new DDE software is needed.

New EGR -hesitation/start up issues. Control arms, drop links, anti roll bar bushes and a new egr too. Ever since the work was completed though, the car is suffering from a hesitation within the mid rev range and the car is taking a few more turns to start up. To my surprise, there is a open safety recall for the EGR Cooler, this is a new one as it shows up on the dealer system but not the online BMW recall database. My car passed inspection on the first EGR Cooler recall (18V-755), but it seems like the car is now getting a redesigned part.

The problem here is, that, not only is your car running less efficient and with less power, but also the soot produced will clog up several parts such as EGR cooler and actuator etc. Carbon will be building in your Air Intake Manifold which then needs to be replaced as well.
