The fastest legit time EU with a griffon afaik is a 41.520, whereas the fastest legit time with a beetle afaik is a 40.160. Beetle still maintains a slight advantage, but it should considering the adventure is called "Roller Beetle Training".
Considering the game gives you an equal or better mount (depends on your viewpoint) without LWS4 episodes, I really don't see much of an issue of it being locked behind LW episodes since it's a novelty mount.
